Problems with Bottle Hygiene in St. Vincent
I took this photo in a malnutrition ward in Kingston, St. Vincent in June 1975.
This is a short appendix to a monograph I wrote that Cornell University published in 1977.
It was based on research on breast and bottle feeding in St. Vincent that I did for my master’s thesis in 1975. Health professionals there gave up on breastfeeding promotion in the 1940s and began teaching mothers how to safely bottle feed. This paper documents how far they still had to go after 3 decades of effort. See the paper published in J Trop Ped in 2007 with Erika Andresen to see how far we’ve come another 3 decades later.
